AIR SPARGING & SOIL VAPOR VENTING & EXTRACTION
Air sparging and soil vapor extraction are alternative technologies, which can be implemented alone or used, in synergistic combination to treat both soil and groundwater. Soil vapor extraction is an in-situ process for removing volatile organic compounds from the unsaturated zone. A vacuum is applied to extraction wells in order to remove volatiles in the soil gas. Air sparging volatilizes volatile organic compounds by injecting air into groundwater, causing the volatiles to migrate to the unsaturated zone where they can be removed by the soil vapor extraction process.
